Cape Cod Septic Guide is an independent guide to the Title 5 nitrogen disclosure rules in Barnstable County. We are not a septic contractor, an engineering firm, or a government agency, and we are not affiliated with MassDEP or any town.

We cannot tell you which box to tick on the disclosure form for your property. That is a determination about a specific address, and the authority on it is your town's Board of Health. What this site does is show you what each town has filed, for which watershed, and where that comes from, so you can check it yourself and take a documented position to them.

If you want a Title 5 inspection quote, use the form on any town or watershed page. It goes to inspectors covering that town, not to us.

Corrections to the regulatory content

This site reads public records and states what they say. If you believe we have read one wrongly — a filing recorded against the wrong town, a watershed name that does not match MassDEP's map, a date that has moved — please tell us, and say which source you are reading. We will check it against the original and correct the page, and every page carries the date of the records it reflects.

Corrections from Boards of Health, town wastewater staff and MassDEP are especially welcome. You are closer to this than we are.

Questions we cannot answer

We cannot give legal advice, determine whether a particular property is in a Nitrogen Sensitive Area, or say whether a specific system passes Title 5. Those belong to your Board of Health, a licensed System Inspector, or MassDEP. For MassDEP's Title 5 programme, the published contact is DEP.Title5@mass.gov.
